Lovlina Borgohain Biography

Lovlina Borgohainis an emerging Indian boxer who is a welterweight fighter. Originating from Assam, Lovlina is another one of the boxers who are talented in India’s Northeast region. It’s from this region that legends like MC Mary Kom, Shiva Thapa, and Sarita Devi hail from. Lovlina is listed as the number. 9 alongside Linh Tran Thi within the 69-kg weight class according to AIBA. Both boxers are ranked at a score of 210 points.

Biography

Lovlina is born in the Assam’s Golaghat district on the 2nd of October 1997. Her parents are Tiken Mamoni and Tiken Borgohain. Tiken is her father. Tiken has a business of a smaller scale from Golaghat. Lovlina was motivated to pursue an interest in Kickboxing by her siblings Licha as well as Lima. Actually, both have been national champions in their respective sports.

In the process of time, Lovlina was given the chance to move to Boxing and seized the opportunity using both hands. It was during the boxing competition organized in the Sports Authority of India at her high school, Barpathar Girls High School and that the young boxer was recognized by famous trainer Padum Boro. In the end, she quickly began classes with the Boxing Academy in 2012. When she reached the International level, Lovlina came under the direction of India’s most senior female coach Shiv Singh.

Initial Success

Lovlina became famous in the year she won bronze during the President’s Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan. She competed in the 75-kg category. Lovlina had raised expectations when she made it to the semifinals of the competition. But she was unable to beat Shakimova from Kazakhstan. With the win, Lovlina became the only Indian to win in the prestigious event. She then doubled her win by going on to claim the silver medal in the Asian Boxing Championships in Vietnam in November of 2017.

2018

Lovlina’s most significant and perhaps most significant break was her participation in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She was selected for the prestigious event in the welterweight boxing category. (The selection, however, was shrouded in controversy after it was discovered that Lovlina was not given any official confirmation of the alleged selection. In reality, she came to know about the selection via a local news outlet.)

The selection of Lovlina for her participation in the Commonwealth Games as a result of her performance in the inaugural India Open which is an international championship in boxing. The event took place in February, Lovlina had won a gold medal in the welterweight division.

In the Commonwealth Games, Lovlina had an impressive start, which led to her advance to the quarterfinals of the highly coveted competition. But, she had faced with the daunting challenge of overcoming Britain’s Sandy Ryan. Sandy is a veteran boxer and was the Olympic silver medalist from the 2013 World Championships silver medalist.

But, Lovlina started the first round in a negative manner and four of five decided in favor of Sandy. It was a tight contest during the subsequent rounds Lovlina’s Indian took her opponent’s the run of her life. But, to the dismay of Lovlina, the contest ended to Sandy’s advantage. (30–27 30–27, 30–27 and 28–29 29–28, 28–29,) However, it was a valuable experience for the learning experience. For Sandy, she won gold in the Welterweight Boxing Gold.

Lovlina was later awarded a silver medal during her participation in the Ulaanbaatar Cup held in Mongolia in June of 2018. Then she won bronze in the 13th International Silesian Championship that was held in Poland earlier in September.

Lovlina will be the representative of India for India’s participation in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship which will be held at New Delhi, India.

Family

Lovlina Borgohain is born in Assam’s Golaghat district on October 2nd, 1997. Her parents are Tiken Borgohain and Mamoni Borgohain. The father of her, Tiken works as a small businessman from Golaghat. Lovlina was motivated to pursue the career of Kickboxing by her twin sisters, Licha as well as Lima Borgohain. Both have been champions at the national level in the sport.
